Kate Corkery is a professional storyteller, with a background in language teaching and theatre and is author of the recently published ‘Cork Folk Tales’.
A native of Cork, Kate is based in London where her role as Storyteller in Residence at the Irish Cultural Centre won a Fringe First Award for "her outstanding work in regenerating the art of storytelling in today's society".
A passionate believer in the importance of storytelling in education, she is a founder member of 'Everyday Magic'- a combined Arts Company, bringing stories, music and art to London schools. Kate also performs as one half of the dynamic Irish/Afro Caribbean duo ‘Spud and Yam' with whom she has produced multicultural music CDs and inspiring educational resources for children.
Kate has toured far and wide internationally telling stories in China, Russia, and South America as well appearing in many European festivals, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, The Faroe Islands and Spain.
A proud member of Aos Scéal Eireann ,Kate has been a featured teller at Storytelling festivals all over Ireland -from Cape Clear, to The Glens of Antrim. In 2013 she was awarded Performance of the Year by the British Awards for Storytelling Excellence for ‘Sweet Shop on The Shore’, a commissioned piece set in her own home town of Passage West.
Kate is delighted to be sharing stories in Ardagh this summer.
